The Cornish Pilot Gig Association Collection has been drawn together through the 'Pulling Together The Past' project.
This project was delivered between June 2018 and November 2019 by the Cornish Pilot Gig Association CIO. It set out to bring together existing heritage relating to gig rowing and capture the memories and experiences of the gig rowing community through filmed interviews.
The collection features film, audio and photographic items which have been shared by over 30 contributors. There are also over 50 newly created filmed interviews documenting the traditions of gig rowing and development of the sport.

An account of the resource
Cornish Pilot Gig ‘Shah’ rowed by the men's crew in St Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly. ‘Shah’ was built by the Peters family of St Mawes in 1873 originally owned by St Agnes shareholders, sold to Newquay Rowing Club, loaned back to the islands from Newquay Gig Rowing Club from 1963 but was sold back to the islands in this year.
