Description

Cornish Pilot Gigs ‘Newquay’, ‘Dove’, ‘Treffry’, ‘Active’, ‘Good Intent’, ‘Speculation’, & ‘Fly’ beached at Newquay. 'Newquay', 'Dove' and 'Treffry' were built by the Peters family of St Mawes in 1812, 1820 and 1838 respectively. 'Active', Good Intent' and 'Speculation' were built by Tom Chudleigh of St Mary's in 1974, 1975 and 1987. 'Fly' was built by Ralph Bird of Devoran in 1993. Mostly they were named after historic fish cellars in Newquay. ‘Newquay’ was the oldest known Cornish Pilot Gig.
