Description

The steam locomotive 'Miner', which came into service in 1854 and operated on the Redruth-Chacewater mineral railway. 'Miner' was substantially rebuilt in 1869 at Devoran where the offices and workshops were situated. The line closed in 1915 when 'Miner' took the last train to Devoran. The man wearing the bowler hat, William Frances, worked on the footplate for over eighty years. Stephen Gay, the man standing on the buffers, was later killed when an engine came off the rails at Ting Tang, near Carharrack.
