Description
David George interviews Peter Malec during the World Pilot Gig Championships. He says that 30 years ago as Chairman of the Isles Of Scilly Gig Racing Association he helped organise the first World Gig Championships. He explains that they had requests from several Cornish Clubs to come over to the Islands for a weekend of fun rowing so they decided to invite them all for the same Bank Holiday weekend, having discussed it with George Northey from Newquay Rowing Club who ran their own events. Peter talks about a controversial decision he made in disqualifying a local ladies crew. David also asks whether it was ‘tongue in cheek’ naming it the World Championships the first year and Peter says it wasn’t.
