Description

David George interviews Tristan Hick during the World Pilot Gig Championships. He is the owner of Coast Guards Cafe on St Agnes which used to be his father’s workshop where he made models of Cornish Pilot Gigs. He shows David some pictures of a race which took place in 1962 which spurred the revival of gig rowing in Scilly. The three gigs racing include ‘Sussex’ and ‘Czar’ which would have been on Bryher and Tresco at the time and ‘Campernelle’ on St Agnes. David asks if he knows any of the people in the picture, and he names several people called Hicks and Tom Chudleigh who built Cornish Pilot Gigs.
