Title A name given to the resource George Ellis Collection Description An account of the resource The George Ellis Collection is an outstanding record of community life in Cornwall during the second half of the twentieth century. George Ellis moved to Cornwall from London during the Second World War. A professional press photographer, George documented news stories and community events from the mid 1940s until the 1970s. The collection focuses primarily on mid-Cornwall but also includes images from right across the Duchy. Subject matter includes hotels, farms, agricultural shows, quarries, family gatherings, weddings, Christenings, Padstow’s ‘Obby ‘Oss, the Second World War and carnivals. The George Ellis Collection was given to the Cornish Studies Library upon George’s retirement in the 1980s. In total, the collection contains over 100,000 glass plate negatives. Many of these can be viewed by browsing the images available through the statutory archive <a href="https://kresenkernow.org/">kresenkernow.org/</a>.
