Clive Carter was perhaps best known for his many publications on Cornish themes, in particular shipping and shipwrecks. Clive amassed a prestigious photographic collection of salvage, wartime activity, rescue, lifeboats, fishing, ports and harbours, spanning over 100 years of Cornish history.

The collection features locations around the Cornish coast, from Bude to Penzance and on to Polperro, taking in the Isles of Scilly on the way. There are even photographs of ships in such far-flung places as Devon.

Clive’s collection was bequeathed to the Cornish Studies Library and many of the photographs from the collection are presented online here for the very first time.
